On Tuesday, October 18th, Wendell Phillips Academy High School welcomed the AT&T’S Connect to Good team for a day of service beautifying the school. AT&T is a first year team sponsor in City Year Chicago, and we were excited to begin our partnership with a day of service. During this event, more than 50 members from the organization and 15 Phillips students worked together to paint beautiful murals in the school hallways. The murals had themes of college readiness, Chicago, Phillips pride, and inspirational quotes.
As a current AmeriCorps member on this year’s AT&T team at Phillips Academy High School, it was great to interact with the AT&T volunteers as well as getting the opportunity to see the students get involved in the service. I was encouraged to see and hear volunteers and students passionately having discussions on the impact that this service project will have on the student body and school as a whole.

As a new member of the Phillips community, to be a part of this service event and be a member of City Year’s very own Services Reserves team was a great experience. I felt a sense of pride seeing others engage with our wonderful students and understand how much they deserve a beautiful atmosphere of learning. It was also great to see others realize our students’ potential and genuinely want to encourage and inspire them through their service. At the end of the day, the most gratifying part was seeing many student and staff reactions to the murals as the week progressed. The students and the AT&T team were able to leave their mark on the school for future generations to see and enjoy!

On behalf of the City Year Phillips Team I would like to extend my thanks to AT&T’s Connect To Good Team, and we look forward to serving with you again in the future!
