Bridge Builders

City Year’s idealistic culture includes a growing collection of stories and quotations from many cultures that we call “Founding Stories.” These Stories, which we consider to be gifts to our organization, are a foundation for our work and provide values to guide us, set us on course and remind us of the most fundamental motivations for our work. We share the Founding Stories with each other often and apply them to our work each and every day. We would like to share The Bridge Builder Founding Story with you.

Finishing the Year Strong

In partnership with school administration, we work to ensure end of year testing and other school requirements are met and we are happy to do what is required to help our scholars succeed. Our goal continues to be to get all of our students past the 900 mark and as we approach summer vacation the task of keeping students focused and on track requires more attention.

One day when we were working together in the City Year room, Mr. Adam came across one of his favorite childhood books, Put Me in the Zoo by Robert Lopshire. When the student heard about how much he enjoyed reading it when he was young, she decided she wanted to read it too!
