What were you doing before City Year?

"Before City Year, I was finishing my college degree in Theater and Sociology and teaching 5th grade."

Why did you choose to serve?

"I chose to serve because I wished to serve my country in a cause greater than myself."

How have you been challenged?

"It can be challenging to work with substitutes who do not understand what City Year is, the partnership and the culture that has been established in the classroom by the students, teacher, and myself."

City Year culture is a big part of your service year. What was your favorite culture piece. Why?

"My favorite City Year culture piece would have to be the uniform, especially the bomber jacket because I see it as a beacon of service and hope."

How have you been personally impacted?

"I have been personally been impacted by the children who I serve and the team who I serve alongside. This year has made me realize that national service will be a life long passion of mine."

How do you know you've made an impact?

"I'm not really sure if I have impacted Jacksonville, my school, or a student. This job does not give instant gratification. And yet, I rather there be longevity in my impact than instant impact."

If happiness was the national currency, what kind of job would make you rich?

"I would either be a novelist or travel writer."
