City Year Los Angeles is an official charity partner of the 2015 ASICS LA Marathon. This Sunday, March 15-- on what is anticipated to be an unseasonably hot day!  --20 AmeriCorps and staff members will run on our organization’s behalf.

Here’s why one staff member is running those 26.2 miles:

Name: Olga Corona De La Cruz
Age: 25
Title: Program Manager at Stevenson Middle School

Why she runs: I was never a runner. In fact, more often than not after my annual physical my doctor would classify me as obese. Like most of the women in my family I was headed in the direction to being at risk for stroke, heart attack or diabetes.
All that changed the summer of 2011 when I took up running thanks to the urging and support – sometimes literally as he pushed me uphill! -- of my littlest brother. I ran my first LA Marathon in 2012, and I’ve been running it every year since.

Why she runs for City Year: I am committed to being a catalyst for positive change. I am running the LA Marathon for City Year because I truly believe in the work we do, and that all students have the potential to succeed -- they just need extra support.
