At a City Year Opening Day ceremony, young leaders across the country pledge to serve, dedicating a year of their lives to making an impact in the lives of the students and communities. Opening Day ceremonies are the literal and symbolic beginning to a new year of helping students to change their educational outcomes and their futures as a whole.

At Opening Day on September 17, 2014, emcee Erika Gonzalez from NBC4 helped to swear in 158 City Year AmeriCorps members who gathered at Cardozo Education Campus, along with nearly 200 of their guests. Take a look at pictures from the event.
